Here is a list of the resources we used, videos we watched, and activities we did in our study of Russia.
Every time we begin our “travels” to a new country, we always do the same 5 things:
1) Find the flag sticker for the country we are going to travel to, and stick it in our
2) Set up a pretend airplane and sing our "All Around the World" song as we pretend to fly to our destination.
3) Assemble our first travel book page, with the name of the country, the flag, country outline, and the pictures of people dressed in traditional costume.

4) Have a fun little country themed scavenger hunt! (featured below)
5) Assemble our second travel book page. Although, this page we usually do on our LAST day of learning about the country, since the kids like to pretend that they took all these pictures while they were visiting the country, so this second page is a place for them to “scrapbook” their memories of what they did on their adventure.

Russia Scavenger Hunt. We always like to do a scavenger hunt when learning about a new country. This is the scavenger hunt we put together for Russia.
Hogie Goes to St. Petersburg. Hogie and friends travel to St. Petersburg during the White Nights Festival, and their new friend Pavel tells them the story of the Scarlet Sails.
Russia for Kids. This video is packed full of fun Russian Facts for children (and parents). A comprehensive guide to the largest country in the world.
'Let’s Learn About Russia Now' Geography and Culture Song. Written with the tempo and feel of a traditional Russian waltz, this whimsical song about Russia gives a basic overview of the geography, culture, landmarks, icons, and famous historical figures from Italy.
Is Russia in Europe or Asia? Russia is the largest country on Earth, but is Russia in Europe? Or Asia? This video helps to give a better understanding of how the continents work, and seeks to answer the question of which continent is Russia really on?

Moscow Metro. Jett brings a basket to a boy named Huddin in Moscow, so that he can deliver some special bread to his mum in the hospital. Jett needs the help of Paul's Police Patrol when the basket of bread gets left on a subway car.

Neighborhood Nutcracker. Daniel is going to see a show called The Nutcracker Ballet! Once he arrives at the performance, he finds out that Prince Wednesday is sick and needs Daniel to fill in for him and dance on stage. Daniel is reluctant at first but realizes that if he learns the steps a little bit at a time, he can dance the Nutcracker and the show will go on!

Masha and the Bear: How They Met. Masha and the Bear is a cartoon that originated in Russia and has since gone on to become a popular show around the world. In this very first episode, Masha walks into the forest where she finds a cozy-looking Bear’s house, who at this moment has just gone fishing. Upon his return, he discovers his lovely house in shambles. The Bear does his best to get rid of the pesky guest.

The Great Ice Age. Michael J. Oard explores the evidence for only one Ice Age caused by the global Flood just a few thousand years ago. Since the 1700’s we’ve been told that the there have been many ice ages over millions of years, but now meteorologist Michael Oard shares evidence that the main-line scientific community won’t tell you. He’ll share compelling evidence for only one Ice Age not long after the end of the global Flood as recorded in the Bible. He’ll show how the Flood produced the right conditions to develop the Ice Age in 500-700 years, then how a catastrophic melt off transpired in only 50-70 years. He’ll also share why only one Ice Age explains many associated mysteries such as the extension of the woolly mammoth and other mammals, massive permanent climate change, and the spread of man and animals after the Flood. He’ll show how the Biblical record makes much more sense of what we find the in the geologic record.

Russian Dance Step by Step Tutorial. This Rosie and Posie Dance Adventure Show gives step by step instructions on how to do the various moves required in a traditional Russian Dance. Russian Polka. Dance 'n Beats is an educational preschool "learn to dance" series. This particular song features a Russian polka dance.

How Misha the Bear Became the Olympic Mascot. A classic Russian cartoon, created to introduce Misa the Bear as the new mascot for the 1980's Summer Olympics.
Misha, full name Mikhail Potapych Toptygin, was the official mascot of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Designed by children's book illustrator Victor Chizhikov, the smiling brown bear cub wearing a belt with the Olympic rings became one of the most famous and beloved mascots in Olympic history.
