Here is a list of the resources we used, videos we watched, and activities we did in our study of Brazil.
Every time we begin our “travels” to a new country, we always do the same 5 things:
1) Find the flag sticker for the country we are going to travel to, and stick it in our
2) Set up a pretend airplane and sing our "All Around the World" song as we pretend to fly to our destination.
3) Assemble our first travel book page, with the name of the country, the flag, country outline, and the pictures of people dressed in traditional costume.

4) Have a fun little country themed scavenger hunt! (featured below)
5) Assemble our second travel book page. Although, this page we usually do on our LAST day of learning about the country, since the kids like to pretend that they took all these pictures while they were visiting the country, so this second page is a place for them to “scrapbook” their memories of what they did on their adventure.

Brazilian National Anthem. The Brazilian national anthem was composed by Francisco Manuel da Silva in 1831 and had official lyrics only in 1909 by Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada. Listen to the Brazilian national anthem, with the English translation on screen.
Explore the Rainforest. It's raining where Jessi and Squeaks live, so they decided to bust out some books and read up on a special kind of forest where it rains almost every day!
Tell Me About Forests. In this episode, Justin will be teaching kids all about the different kinds of forests in the world.

George's Curious Amazon Adventure. To raise awareness for the rainforest, Professor Wiseman enlists George and the Man with the Yellow Hat to help make a movie about the different plants, animals, and insects that call it home. But when a frisky tamarin monkey runs off with their camera, the chase is on!
Amazon Adventure. A Dad in Brazil orders a special explorer's outfit for his son so they can explore the Amazon Rainforest together... and to show his son that there's more to life than just playing on his portable video game console. When a huge wave rushes up the Amazon River and threatens the river animals and a village, the boy uses his video-game playing skills to help the Super Wings save the day, while also learning that when you play on video games too much, you miss out on things.

The Rain Game. Sally wants to water the plants in the backyard, but it's hot and sunny outside – they need rain and lots of it. Fortunately, the Cat in the Hat knows exactly where to go to get some: the tropical rain forest! With the assistance of some toucans and the singing of howler monkeys, they explore each level of the rain forest, eventually reaching the top – and the rain!
If I Ran the Rainforest Read Aloud. This is a read aloud video featuring the Cat in the Hat book: “If I Ran the Rainforest” which teaches kids a lot about the science of a rainforest in a way that has entertaining rhymes that make learning fun for kids.
Blippi visits The Pet Zoo in Brazil and learns how to be an animal caretaker! He visits and feeds some mini horses, cows, an ostrich and even a llama!
Kids Try Brazilian Food. Exactly what the title suggests -- American kids are given some popular Brazilian foods to try. Watch their genuine reactions!

Christ the Redeemer for Kids. No study of Brazil would be complete without taking a look at the Christ the Redeemer statue, which also happens to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This video is a quick, simple look at some of the basic information about the statue, it’s history, and current state.
Rio’s Top Attraction – Christ the Redeemer. Join Chris and Carol as they take a train up the mountain, brave windy and cloudy weather, and share their experience of visiting the Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio.

THEO | Redemption. "Theo" is a really cute animated series that discusses doctrine and theology in a way that children can relate to and understand. In this episode, children learn what it means to “redeem” something, and about Jesus redeems us.
How to Draw Christ the Redeemer. If you have artistic kids they may be interested in this tutorial on how to draw the Christ the Redeemer Statue.

Christ the Redeemer Sculpture Challenge. After learning about the Christ the Redeemer Statue, you might challenge the kids to make one of their own using either clay or play dough. This video isn’t really a tutorial, but it can be helpful to watch before trying to make a sculpture of your own. I found it especially helpful to see how they used some wire to reinforce the structure and add strength to the hands and head. Showing this short video to the kids can help them get the ideas and inspiration they need to create their own little “wonder of the world”.
Lego Christ the Redeemer Scene. There aren’t any instructions on how to build this lego scene, but for kids who are already used to building with legos, this picture could serve as inspiration for creating their own Brazil themed lego scene.

Why Are These Frogs So Colorful? Join Squeaks as he learns about some of the most colorful animals ever: poison dart frogs! Some animals are bright and colorful to warn other animals that they might be dangerous... and some are just copycats.

A Very Dangerous Frog. The Octonauts travel to the jungle and meet a frog that carries a deadly poison. The Octonauts are an adventure team who explore the world’s oceans, rescue the creatures who live there and protect their habitats – above and below the waves.

How Many Frogs Are in the Amazon Rainforest. Join us as we hop into the world of Amazon Rainforest frogs! Perfect for young explorers, this episode is packed with fun facts, colorful frogs, and exciting learning moments that will keep you engaged and excited. Totally Tropical Rainforest. This is an old classic video that’s been converted from a VHS tape, so the image quality isn’t the best, but the content of the video itself is quiet entertaining. Narrated by an animated spinning globe (“Spin”) kids will get to see and learn about all sorts of animals in the rainforest.
How to Draw a Poison Dart Frog. Art for Kids Hub is a great YouTube channel that gives easy step by step drawing instructions for kids.

Amazing Amazon Adventure. Chris and Martin are in the Amazon rainforest searching for pink river dolphins. They encounter various animals, including a caiman, howler monkeys, and capybaras. Aviva struggles with inventing something new and joins the brothers in the Amazon for inspiration. Meanwhile, Zach and his villainous friends plot to exploit the Amazon's biodiversity.
I Wonder, How Long is the Amazon River? The Amazon River is one of the most amazing and mighty rivers in the world, winding its way through the lush rainforests of South America. But how long is the Amazon River, and what makes it so special? This short little episode of "I Wonder" helps to answer that question for kids.
Baby Pink or Grey. Leo the Wildlife Ranger is one of the cutest shows for teaching young kids about animals. In this episode, kids will learn about the difference between the traditional grey dolphins and the pink river dolphins.

Hand Print Parrot Craft. This cute, fun little paper craft is a perfect addition to any class that teaches about the Amazon Rainforest and the animals that live there. Simply download the template and follow the directions to create this very simple kids craft.
Lego Creator Tropical Parrot. My kids really loved this simple Lego parrot set. My 5 year old was able to assemble the parrot all on his own, and absolutely loved it!
Lego Rainforest Scene
I wouldn’t really recommend purchasing any of the Lego rainforest sets since they aren’t actually LEGO brand and aren’t that great of quality, but if you have kids who are already used to building with Lego, they could probably just used the pictures of these Lego scenes to build their own Lego rainforests.
Parrot Paper Craft
I don’t have a link for this activity, but it’s pretty simple. All you need is an outline of a parrot (here’s a free template you can download), some fabulous colored craft feathers, and some basic craft supplies (glue, scissors, crayons, googly eyes, etc). Cut out the parrot body on construction paper, color the head with a white crayon, and glue on the eye and lots of feathers!

Pipe Cleaner & Bead Snake Craft. With a pipe cleaner, beads, and some googly eyes, kids can make this really easy snake as a great activity to go along with any study of the Amazon rainforest.
Rainforest Sensory Bin. Okay, so this image isn’t actually a rainforest sensory bin, but seeing this springtime bug sensory bin gave me the inspiration for putting together our own rainforest sensory bins. We just gathered some loose pebbles, added some pretend plants, and bought some rainforest animal figurines to add to it. We used these Rainforest TOOB Figurines and the Poison Dart Frogs TOOB Figurines, which were a big hit with the kids.
Rainforest in a Jar. Kids will love making these little rainforest terrariums!

I don’t have a link for this activity, but I found this image on Pinterest and just loved it! I don’t think it will be too hard to create a version of our own. It’s mostly just made out of construction paper.
For the animals, you could use this Printable Amazon Rainforest Animals page:
Rainforest Animals Creative Prompts. This free printable activity contains a total of 10 creativity prompt pages for kids, featuring a butterfly, caiman, snake, frog, jaguar, gorilla, monkey, sloth, parrot, and a tree. Each page contains a picture of just one thing from the jungle while leaving the rest of the page blank so that the child can fill in the scene by using their imagination. Just download the template pages and let your child’s creativity run wild! The possibilities are endless!

DIY Carnival Masks. After learning about the Brazilian Carnival, why not make some carnival masks of your own and maybe even put on your own little mini parade in the classroom?! There is so much color and creativity that can go into making carnival masks. There’s really no right or wrong way to do it, which can really inspire kids to be creative in making their own unique designs.

How to Draw a Soccer Ball. Art for Kids Hub makes drawing very simple and fun for kids. Trying to draw the designs of a soccer ball can be very challenging, but this step by step tutorial video makes it so much easier!
A great quote from Pelé to inspire young mind! This image is my own design, so feel free to use it however it may be most helpful in your study. The image is sized at 4x6 to make it easy to print on photo paper. Ideal to use in a lapbook or on a poster board, or just print as a photo to hang up.
